Some of them are too big or expensive. Others are not designed for the elderly. So this paper will offer an application for the elderly based on android, which is becoming more and more pupular all over the world.First of all, this paper raised the application’s functional requirement. People can scan the bar code on the medicine packaging to get name, instructions and other information about the medicine with Android-powered smartphone. And all of the infromation will be clearly displayed on the screen. At the same time, the application can also read the information for users. When users want to set up an alarm to take medicine, it will grap the name and instructions on the smartphone automatically so that users don’t have to input. This function will greatly simplify users’ operation.Secondly, the application’s structure can be divided into three parts: client of Android, Server, drug database. The client of Android is the medium of directly interacting with users and realizing all the functions above. The durg database provides data support for scanning function. The server responds the client’s query request, and returns the result to the client after query the database.Finally, the application were tested. The medicine reminder application can be well operated and realize its function accurately. In the future,it can help the elderly develop a good habit of taking medicine and improve the medication safety. At the same time, it will lighten the burden of their kids or nurse, adapt to the development of the aging society and the condition of our counrty. It is of great importance to the old people who live alone.
