In recent years, with the improvement of people’s living standards and the rapid development of the home security industry, people’s requirements for the family property security are also increasing, home security robots emerge at the right moment, video surveillance system as a core part of it has attracted widespread attention. In view of the robot has a characteristic of moving at any time, in order to obtain a better user experience, the robot’s video surveillance systems should have good mobility and real-time, in addition to meeting the traditional video surveillance capabilities. Users can obtain surveillance video anytime and anywhere via mobile devices,to meet their diverse needs.In this paper, in order to meet the demand of home security robots video monitoring, designed and realized a mobile video surveillance system based on the ARM11. The system uses C/S structure, including video surveillance server and client in two parts. To improving open source video server software Mjpg-streamer, redesigned the server under its framework.On the server side, use CMOS camera captures video, choose S3C6410 as the core processor, use the integrated MFC(Multi-Format video Codec) hardware codec module for H.264 video coding, use RTP/RTCP protocol to transmit H.264 stream by transplanting JRTPLIB library; on the client side, decoding and displaying H.264 stream by transplanting FFmpeg library. Mjpg-streamer uses M-JPEG image compression encoding technology to compress video frame by frame.It’s inefficiencies, can’t achieve smooth video transmission in bandwidth constrained networks. H.264 is a high performance video compression technology.Its efficiency is very high, can provide continuous, high-quality video on the different network. Embedded system is resource-constrained, it can reduce the CPU resource consumption and accelerate video processing speed by using H.264 hardware encoding.Therefore, Mjpg-streamer and H.264 hardware encoder combine in embedded systems, full use of the hardware resources of the processor and the efficient video compression coding standard, make video transmission more smoothly and in line with real-time requirement. The system uses the wireless network to transmit video which greatly improves the flexibility of the system,meet the demand for mobility. The system tested in a wireless LAN environment,when the video resolution is 640 × 480, it can reach 25 fps, video transmission clear and smooth, with a very good practical prospect.
