With the continuous development of science and technology and networks, databases are constantly applied to a variety of fields and industries in today’s information-based society. Their widespread application raises higher requirements for database performance; how to use the limited resources in an optimal manner relates to user satisfaction and cost control of enterprises. Database performance tuning allows faster operation, higher throughout and shorter response time of the database. In the meantime, since database performance tuning covers a wide range and is relatively complex, a unified planning is needed to conduct detailed analyses and figure out corresponding solutions. On by doing so can the reliability and availability of the database be effectively improved to achieve the purpose of a good run. To this end, this paper presents the design of database performance tuning.With DB2 Database in IBM Corporation as the research object, this paper carries out a multi-level, multi-faceted in-depth analysis of database structure and performance optimization principle. Firstly, from the perspectives of the design of database structure and system and the physical and logical design of database, this paper introduces database performance tuning, presents the influence of table partitioning, index, buffer pool, table space and other factors on physical and logical design of database, and puts forward suggestions about the optimization of physical and logical design. Secondly, the author improves data system configuration, configuration parameters and data query, takes a series of measures and approaches, such as adjusting the initial configuration and parameters and improving SQL query language. Combined with the above methods, in accordance with data characteristics of DB2 Database, the author invents the performance tuning method suitable for this database. Finally, through continuous research, validation and improvement, it is proven that this kind of performance tuning method does work. Meanwhile, the research work is summarized and prospected to provide some improvement measures for its future application and development.The study of optimization and design of DB2 Database system achieves massive information processing, greatly increase the number of corporate and individual users, and makes database better meet the needs of users and better serve actual activities. It not only enhances database performance, but also makes the use of database more close to life and expands database’s use scope and influence.
