Lightning strike is a natural disaster which threatened the safety of power system seriously, now it has became one of the main reasons of power system faults. Therefore, how to realize the lightning monitoring effectively plays an important role. At the present stage, early warning of lightning monitoring is not mature and can’t provide specialized service, such as lightning analysis of visualization and imagery, and so on. Hence, it can’t provide a scientific basis for early warning of lightning monitoring. In this thesis, the lightning monitoring system based on GRPS is investigated and developed, this system get the initial data from the daily work lightning protection and management system, unified manage related lightning current and monitoring site information, also through the analysis of the raw data of each lightning monitoring site to study the relationship between the amplitude and waveform of current and line tripping struck by lightning. This article mainly to study following aspects:Firstly, the existing problems for online administrator to browse data and maintenance based on B/S and C/S database system is analyzed and compared. With selecting the B/S based architecture and JAVA technique in the system, the client design is simplified, which reduces the cost of system maintenance, and enhances the system availability.Secondly, the data communication between the server and monitoring stations as well as positioning of a monitoring station are both investigated and analyzed. The GPRS wireless transmission technique is applied in the data link, which ensures the lightning current data could be sent to the server from each lightning monitoring station, and realize the accurate lightning current data acquisition and positioning of each monitoring station.Finally, the statistics lightning current original data from each monitoring station has been analyzed. Through establishing the relationship between lightning strike tripping and amplitude, waveform, which evaluates the actual lightning resistance level of the power lines. At the same time, using data analysis report to reflect the original data and orientation collected by each power lines, also to analyze and compare the lightning location system data and the data from lightning monitoring system in iron tower.With the investigation and analysis mentioned above, the GPRS based lightning monitoring system has been realized. This system can implement real-time and accurate monitoring of the thunder lightning, and the monitored parameters are the foundation of lightning protection design, which also could be used to the study of lightning characteristics, and insulation coordination design and solve the difficult problem for lightning parameters acquisition and calculation inaccurate.
