Lightning Monitoring And Warning System

Lightning do harm to human being. Lightning early warning issignificant to the lightning protection.CSSAR (Center for Space science and Applied Research, Chinese Academyof Sciences) develops a lightning early warning system, which is basedon the lightning strike monitor and orientation technology and the groundatmospheric electric field theory. Thanks to the network technology andthe electric field digitalization technology, the system implements thereal-time monitoring the lightning and the ground atmospheric electricfield as well as the lightning early warning. The electric fieldprocessing sub-system is the important part of the system.Based on the characteristics of kinds of thunderstorm, a lightningearly warning method is discussed in this thesis. The method is adoptedby the system.The electric field processing sub-system software design is discussedin this thesis. The software implements the real time monitoring groundatmospheric electric field, playback the electric field curve/data. Withthe software the user can get a clear picture of the ground atmosphericelectric field, furthermore the user can get the lightning early warning.According to the data from the system, the ground atmospheric electricfield characteristic during a thunderstorm is analyzed. Based on thecloud-ground lightning data, a preliminarily study on the thunderstormday and the lightning density is introduced.
