In order to meet today’s energy shortage and advocate high-efficient and energy-saving status, research on green, energy saving, high-efficiency new Light Emitting Plasma(LEP)has become increasingly active. In this paper, based on the research of first generation of LEP, using rapid developing microwave solid state circuit to substitute vacuum device as a drive source, many shortcomings of the first generation of LEP has been solved and new microwave source that can be used in engineering applications has been realized. This paper mainly focus on the design of power amplifier of RF module of new LEP, and a lot of research and analysis aimed at high efficiency, high power have been done, ultimately achieve the design of high efficiency, high power PA. The main contents are divided into four parts.Firstly, by introducing the research background of the subject, the study design methods and development status of the power devices are described in detail. Secondly, the basic type, technical specifications, research and design methods of power amplifier are analyzed and researched theoretically, load-pull and nonlinear are detailed description in PA. meanwhile, theoretical analysis focusing on how to achieve high efficiency and class-F power amplifier. Thirdly, by analyzing the design goal of LEP and selecting the LDMOS power transistor as the design basis, simulation studies on high-power tubes MRF6V4300 N from Freescale is achieved by ADS simulation software, a PA of 250 W output power and high efficiency above 60% is consequently is fabricated and debugged. Detailed analysis of design method, considerations for debugging problems and solutions for the encountered issues are elaborated in this article. Then, the paper researched on how to improve the efficiency and Class F PA with 200 W output power and 74% efficiency is implemented by adding harmonic control. Finally, analyze and summarize the thesis deficiencies and give suggestions for improvement, then overview and preview of future PA in RF module for LEP.In this paper, LEP for engineering applications is realized with great feasibility, and pointed out that the key point of design in engineering applications. Through simulation and testing of two designed circuits, this paper reached the design goal of high power and high efficiency, and had great reference value for later researchers.
