With the radar targets become more diverse and radar surveillance scenes become more complicate, the tracking performance of existing radar for dim targets like low altitude targets and stealth targets can not meet the requirements of engineering applications. By exploiting of external knowledge of targets and environment, the tracking algorithm which based on radar auxiliary knowledge guarantees more information to improve the recognition of targets and clutter, and appropriate strategies to improve the tracking dim targets performance in complicated environments. This technology has been the hotspot at home and abroad.To solve the above problem, this thesis mainly studied the optimization algorithm of existing amplitude information(AI) aided tracking algorithms, the radar polarization information(PI) aided tracking algorithm, the geographic information system(GIS) aided tracking algorithm, and the radar clutter database aided detection and tracking algorithm which meet the engineering applications. The specific contributions of this thesis are introduced as follows:1. Aiming at the short coming of existing amplitude information(AI) aided tracking algorithms, a modified amplitude information(AI) aided tracking algorithms is studied in which the tracking performance of different fluctuating targets and different clutter are analysed. By stricting the criterion of the track management, the proposed algorithm has a better false track suppression performance than existing algorithms.2. Aiming at the problem that the study of radar polarization information in tracking field is so little, in this thesis, a polarization information aided tracking algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm improves the tracking precision effectively. Furthermore, after combing the modified tracking algorithm which proposed on the second chapter, the modified PI aided tracking algorithm is proposed. With this algorithm, the false track suppression performance is improved.3. Focusing on the problem that there has a mount of clutter when tracking in complicated environments which affect the tracking performance seriously, a geographic information system(GIS) aided tracking algorithm is studied. It can call the prior clutter classification knowledge of radar surveillance, and adjust the related tracking strategies, so a better the false track suppression performance is obtained.4. Focusing on the false track suppression performance can not meet the engineering applications when tracking target in complicated environments, a systematic implementation scheme that is radar clutter database aided detection and tracking algorithm is proposed. This algorithm combines the radar clutter database、knowledge aided detection and knowledge aided tracking algorithms together effectively, and can significantly reduce the number of false tracks, meet target tracking’s engineering applications requirements.The above tracking algorithms are tested using simulated data or real data collected from surveillance radar. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms can effectively improve the performance of tracking dim targets in complicated environment.
