Power combining amplifier is what we normally called solid-state amplifier(SSA), at mm waveband, solid-state amplifier usually connects power source(or driver amplifier) and TWT, always plays a vitally indispensable role in the field of national defense. This paper based on current domestic and international background and development of solid-state amplifier and learned from them, then proposed two power combining schemes: frequency range are 32-38 GHz and 28-32 GHz. At last, choose the 32-38 GHz 18-way network for thermal analyzing and thermal optimization synthesis.The innovations that this paper introduced mainly contain 5 aspects as the following:(1) Introduced the Ka-band SPA research’s background and significance, summarized the development and situation trend of SPA both home and abroad, contrasted the different power technologies. Then combining efficiencies of power combining in different ways are also analyzed;(2) Designed several of waveguide to microstrip transition juctions, as well as microstrip/waveguide 2-way and 3-way power dividers.(3) At 32-38 GHz, designed an 18-way power divider/combiner network based on branch waveguide 3-way power divider and waveguide-microstrip 2-probe structure.(4) At 28-32 GHz, developed the traditional radial-waveguide power splitting method, proposed three new kinds of radial-waveguide to 8/12/24 microstrips divider, and then designed 8-way, 12-way, 24-way power combining networks;(5) Choose the 32-38 GHz 18-way combining network for thermal analyzing and thermal optimization synthesis, compared different materials’ effects on thermal performance of the network.
