With the development of information technology, increasingly complex optimization problem, and the traditional optimization method in the optimization often has significant limitations. Modern optimization algorithms which obtained the inspiration from the biological intelligence, or physical phenomena given priority to with evolutionary optimization algorithms have set up. They are suitable for the characteristics of highly parallel, global and adaptive, provide a new way to solve the complex problem by using the process with systemic and purpose instead of traditional manual method. In microwave circuit design, element optimization in many applications problems should adapt to the various types of design variables, index constraints, and linear or nonlinear of unit combination structure, etc. HFSS as important electromagnetic simulation software in microwave circuit design provides concise easy modeling interface the simulation interface and powerful processor, to calculate all kinds of complex 3-D full-wave electromagnetic field of passive components.Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) as a typical algorithm swarm intelligence evolution algorithms, has been widely studied and applied because of its simple principle, easy implementation, etc. In this paper, in-depth study of this algorithm, aiming to accelerate the convergence speed and improve the search precision, a kind of algorithm based on PSO called Team Evolutionary Algorithm(TeamEA) is presented. And it combined with HFSS software interface scripts, to implement modeling, simulation and optimization of microwave components. The main research work can be summarized as follows:1.Described the PSO algorithm’s basic concept, realization method and its existing problems, further analyzed the research status and trends of the algorithm.2.Further researched several commonly used test functions of the optimization algorithm, the new test functions are more complicated and variable after the originals with rotated and shifted operation, they put forward higher requirements on the performance of the algorithms, and used for testing the adaptability and optimization ability of algorithms for many unknown structure or space in reality.3.For some of the deficiencies for the PSO algorithm, by introduced the population strategy, this paper proposed team evolution algorithm. The optimization process of this algorithm is divided into two stages: In the former stage, in order to keep the diversity, the players are divided into a number of junior teams to optimize at the same time and the senior team is formed; In the later stage, in order to improve the convergence speed, just optimize the senior team. In the process of the whole optimization, by evaluating the players’ achievements to control the adjustment step-length and the maximum space, and form the coaching staff to guide the progress direction of the players. Using high-dimensional multimodal test functions validate the superiority and effectiveness of this algorithm by comparing to the others.4. Researched by macro command control HFSS software to implement modeling automatically, used VBscript script language to realize the co-simulation between Matlab and HFSS simulation. Used team evolutionary algorithm’s optimization ability and HFSS’ powerful analysis ability in electrical properties, to realize the optimization scheme based on the team evolutionary algorithm and the electromagnetic simulation software named HFSS.5. Applied the optimization scheme to the microwave circuit design, through the successful optimization design of 1.2~1.5 GHz hairpin filter, WLAN antenna, the experiment results show that the optimization scheme based on the team evolutionary algorithm and microwave circuit design is effective and has application value.
