Historically high-power, high-voltage pulse modulators are more used in radar, medical accelerator and industrial accelerator etc., but high technical difficulty and high manufacturing cost of the entire system limit its applications in other fields. Because high-power laser has a broad application prospect, and the high-power laser weapon plays an important role in national defense photoelectricity confrontation, there is an urgent need for developing a new type high-power TEA CO2 laser system. The main research of this paper is to discuss how to realize the organic integration of high-voltage pulse modulator technology and high-power laser discharge technology, design and fabricate a new type high-performance ten-kilowatt-level TEA CO2 laser system.In view of the important role of the high-voltage pulse modulator in high-power laser system as well as abundant developing experience involved in vacuum devices and high-power high-voltage pulse modulators in our institute, the research objective of this project is determined to master charge-discharge technology of excitation power supplies and developing technology of core devices for ten-kilowatt-level lasers, fabricate pulse modulators for ten-kilowatt-level TEA CO2 laser with thyratrons as the main discharge switches.This thesis mainly describes the characteristics and the system configuration of the TEA CO2 laser, the concept and the working principle of the high-voltage pulse modulator and the performance characteristics of soft-switching hyratron devices, meanwhile it focuses on the characteristics and the working principle of the linear pulse modulator. Combined with characteristics analysis of the TEA CO2 laser, the technical scheme of linear pulse modulator was determined and the specific circuit design was carried out. The main parameters of the circuit was calculated, the key components was selected the overall structure design of the system was completed, the key device hyratron was developed, the overall experimental system was established and the shakedown test was passed. The debugging and analysis results of the experimental system verify the feasibility and the correctness of the design scheme.Finally, the achievements and shortcomings of the research was summarized, and future direction and research content was pointed out.
