Pulse discharge hydrogen thyratron is widely used in many radar equipments. As aswitch element of modulator, hydrogen thyratron plays an important role inmedium-distance and long-distance guard radars especially. In recent years, variouspulse discharge hydrogen thyratron have been developed along with internal militaryequipments being improved, such as miniaturization thyratron with high reliability usedin missile-based radar and large pulse power thyratron used in satellite survey radar. Atthe same time, hydrogen thyratron are also used diffusely in simulating nuclear test, electron accelerator, laser devices, medicinal equipments, pulse modulator and otherelectron devices.Nowadays the study and manufacture of new pattern hydrogen thyratron is usuallyadopting experiential method to accomplish primary designs. The method based on thetest results of sample tubes to pertinently modify designs, will always cause large lossof cost and time because of structure altering repeatedly. Therefore, in this paper computer simulations are used for typical structure ofhydrogen thyratron to discuss distribution of electric field and transference andpervasion of plasma in tube. With computer optimizing, a reasonable configuration ofhydrogen thyratron has been achieved, which is verified by results of experiment. This paper is mainly divided into several parts as follow:1. The basic knowledge of pulse discharge hydrogen thyratron.2. The theory summarization of computer simulation for hydrogen thyratron.3. The simulation results of several structures of hydrogen thyratron.4. Designing and testing of hydrogen thyratron under the guidance of computersimulations.
