With the diversification and complication of modern equipment, the traditional paper-based technical manuals brought a lot of problems, such as a rapid expansion of the number, sharp increase of cost, and hard to update. S1000 D as a comprehensive and complete technical publication standard, its modular data content features made it have a good support to complex business processes and business expansion, which made it become the international standard of interactive electronic technical manuals(short for IETM). More and more IETM products based on S1000 D specification are developed so as to support a variety of business applications.After studied and analyzed the large number of S1000 D publication literature and technology, this paper has designed and implemented a publishing system based on S1000 D specification, which provided functions of HTML and PDF publishing, CGM image convert, and publication module edit et, so as to support the whole IETM project. The main works of this paper are:1. This paper had studied DocBook standard, stylesheet and DocBook customized layer, provided preparatory knowledge for authoring S1000 D XSLT.2. Through the research on the S1000 D specification and its data module structure, combined with DocBook elements authored S1000 D XSLT. This S1000 D XSLT supported to the publishing of multiple data module types, and provided richer style for documents published by this system.3. This paper has designed and implemented transform engine module. This module has based on S1000 D XSLT, and combined with Java XML parse validate and transform technology, and could convert S1000 D document into HTML and PDF files.4. This paper has designed and implemented resource map module. This module has combined with XML Catalogs technology, and resolved the URLs references and graphic references, providing resource locate when transforming S1000 D document.5. After the research of image convert technology, this paper designed and implemented a function of converting CGM image to JPEG and PNG image.6. This paper has developed a XML editor for publication data module, which support code completion, syntax highlighting, node tree generation, and mutual locate between text and node tree and so on. All these functions were developed to meet the need of editing a publication data module.Finally, this paper completed the function and performance test for publishing system. Compared with other implements, proposed system has provided a richer style, supported publishing of more S1000 D data module types, and provided a faster execution performance.
