In the wake of 21 st century, with the rapid development of information technology, the way we work and work platforms undergone incredible changes, and the production efficiency also witnessed enormous changes. Especially in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, with the help of advanced computer and information technologies, the production costs have been reduced sharply meanwhile equipment utilization and management efficiency also have been exponentially increased. But as for SMEs(small and medium enterprises) which constitute 99 percent of the total businesses, obviously do not get the same benefit as those large semiconductor manufacturing companies(such as Intel, Qualcomm, etc.). It is caused by problem which is relevant to capital, technology and management methods. Thus, in order to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in semiconductor manufacturing industry, strengthen information materials management, precise production plan, co-ordinate all processes and departments, a material management system which meets the demand of SMEs should be developed.This system is based on fully understanding of the actual needs, the complexity of semiconductor manufacturing processes, and the variety of raw materials. The structure of the system is based on C / S(Client / Server, the client / server model, and its backend database is based the SQL Server 2005, in addition the system contains four functional units, that is Bill of materials(BOM), Master Production Schedule(MPS), material requirements planning(MRP), inventory information(II). The staff can easily get information of the production plan, MRP, purchasing plan, payment plan, BOM and other key information and data,through the man-computer interaction.Currently, the system is having a tryout.The practical application shows that the system is well-designed and efficient to administer. To some extent, the system contributed to enhance the working efficiency and promote the process of IT application, and also lay a foundation for the development of the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Moreover, it has certain reference value for other domestic SMEs to develop their own information management systems.
