Electric power is one of the main forms and essential part of energy utilization in our country and even the world’s energy, the demand of the electric power is also increases with the steady development of our economy increasingly. At present in China, the main way of coal-fired power is still in power production, so how to improve the utilization of coal resources and reduce the cost of coal-fired power generation, become the important problems of current coal resource shortage. Modern industrial process control system, especially most of the use of PID control for thermal process control system in thermal power plant, the stability and parameters of its reasonable or not directly related to the safe and stable operation and economic benefit of thermal power units.More and higher requirements have been put forward to Thermal control technology with the increasing capability of the Thermal power generating units. How to get reasonable control parameters after obtaining the model of thermal control objects became necessary conditions and key technology of thermal control system design. A reasonable model structure with the imprecise control parameters could influence the effect and efficiency of control system, and cause instability of the whole system, even threaten the security of system.Ant colony optimization is a new kind of simulated evolutionary algorithmthat suitable for solving all kinds of complex combinatorial optimization probl em. Not only has the ability to solve combinatorial optimization problems in dis crete domain, but also made a rich fruits in solving the continuous space functio n optimization problem both on the research and application. Based on the basi c theory of ant colony algorithm in the origin of thought, basic principle, algorit hm model and implementation methods, this paper mainly focus on the applicati on of ant colony algorithm in the PID controller parameters optimization, how-t o improve the basic ant colony algorithm to work better for different control obj ect, finally apply the ant colony optimization and the improvement calculation to PID parameter optimization of boiler steam level control system and Steam temperature control system.Ant colony optimization provides a new method and thought to PID parameter optimization. This article is research the application of control system optimization based on ant colony algorithm of swarm intelligence theory. Firstly the paper introduces the basic theory of ant colony algorithm and its using range, analyzes its applicability and implementation method in parameters optimization of the control system, than complete parameters optimization of Cascade control system and feedforward-cascade control system after optimize parameters of single loop control system. According to the different thermal control object of thermal power units, using the ant colony optimization and its improved algorithm to optimize parameters of boiler drum and Steam temperature control system and obtain good control parameters and simulation results. Compared with other parameters optimization method, the simulation results prove that the ant colony optimization has advantages and application value on research in some aspects.
