The 1980 s, the second era of "May 4th" new literature, was regarded as a "golden age" of the publishing industry. It inherited from the seventeen-year literature, took concerted action with "May 4th" new literature, and initiated literature during and after the 1990 s, it was an important transitional period in contemporary literature history. Poetry about returnees, and mainstream or non-mainstream literature such as the introspection literature, the trauma literature, the root-seeking literature, the reforming literature and the vanguard literature and so on, all came into being during this period. The book market and literary periodicals presented an unprecedented state of prosperity; there was an ideal interaction between literary press and literary production. The literature press became actively involved in contemporary literary production, participated in literary creation and theoretical construction and took part in the classic process of literature. Contemporary literary production created a feedback loop with the literature press; the great prosperity of creation, theories and thoughts made a whole "culture fever". The literature press contributed to that "culture fever" which in turn guided and stimulated the literature press into the great prosperity.This paper takes Shanghai literature and art publishing house as examples. This paper inspects their public behavior and characteristics in the 1980 s and makes a chronological discussion. The author tries to present a locale literature of diversity, complexity and prosperity; clarifies the complex interactive relationship between literature publishing house and contemporary literary production; explores the diversion between contemporary and classic literature, and ponders existential status and future development of literature publishing house in the impact of literature marginalization and new media.The thesis includes an introduction, text and epilogue, the text consists of six chapters, as follows:The introduction describes the research status of this project, with brief narration of over 60 years development of Shanghai literature and art publishing house. The subject is considered in a longitudinal time dimension, to explain the cause and purpose of choosing Shanghai literature and art publishing house in 1980 s as the research object.The first chapter discusses the “Flowers blossom once again” event, through the national political and cultural events; the acute political vision, profound academic accomplishment and great courage of the editors of Shanghai literature and art publishing house is reflected.The second chapter discusses the sequel project of an Anthology of Modern Chinese Literature, through analysis of seventy-five huge publishing projects, the macro historical vision, incredible perseverance and faith, and sacrificial spirit of the whole Shanghai editing team is presented.The third chapter takes agency-supporting magazine Fiction World as the study object, focusing on short stories and overseas student literature, trying to show the general ecological appearance of literary journals in the 1980 s, stressing the collective wisdom of the editorial department of Fiction World and the great enterprise of getting actively involved in contemporary literary production.The fourth chapter discusses the interaction between Shanghai literature and art publishing house with the writer. In the 1980 s, the editors and the writers kept friendly, cooperative relations; literature publishing houses took many effective measures in training green hands in literature and editorship. Writers, editors and critics, as leading players in literature production with good relationships, contributed to the prosperity of literature in the 1980 s.The fifth chapter analyzes the relationship between Shanghai literature and art publishing house and literary canonizations; it focuses on the activities of literary history writing and literary award appraisal. In addition, compilation of contemporary literary series independently promoted the literary canon steering with other literature publishing houses.Around the interactive relationship between "culture fever" and Shanghai literature and art publishing house, Chapter 6 states the external reason why Shanghai literature and art publishing house came to its prosperity in the 1980 s. Keen market sense, political sense, cultural sense and academic sense made Shanghai literature and art publishing house distinct from other presses.The epilogue focuses on a discussion of the reasons why the literature press, whose leading exponents were Shanghai literature and art publishing houses, encounter their "Waterloo" after entering the new century.
