In recent years,the safety issues of livestock products have occurred. The establishment of the traceability system which can monitor the processes of breeding, slaughter, transportation and sales, is the most effective method to ensure the quality of animal by-products. At present, some companies have developed the system based on RFID successfully applying in farms, and achieved remarkable results. Moreover, the handset of animal reader plays an indispensable role in the traceability system. But currently the handset of animal reader can only read tag closely, and the simple functions cannot meet the needs of farm management.According to the analysis of above, this paper presents the design of an animal handset reader based on the Android. The main task which is completed is as follows:1. According to detailed requirement analysis, by comparing the flexibility and the read distance between the discrete components circuit and the chip integrated transceiver circuit, the discrete components circuit is selected. Then, the design of the power management circuit, power amplifier circuit, resonant circuit, antenna, filter circuit, operational amplifier circuit and MCU circuit in the discrete components circuit are designed.2. The program of reader including the generation of 134.2kHz square wave, DBP decoding, telegram decoding and serial output is completed.3. Then the reason of choosing Android system is explained, and design of Android software is developed.4. By debugging of antenna and amplifier chip, the reader can read farther tag. The handset can communicate with the discrete components circuit and the traceability system by the Android software.5. At last, the paper analyses the problem of the research and the further of the topic.
