The Comparative Study On Library E-Lending Service Between China And America

The rising of e-book market triggers people’s reading habits to change. More and more people began to select electronic reading, so do the library patrons. In order to meet the multiple demands of the library users, the libraries begin to provide ebook service for their patrons. However, with the development of information technology, patrons’ requirements on ebook service have improved constantly. Patrons want the library provide more for their ebook service. The service should be more freedom, more comprehensive, good usability and able to download. Based on this, IFLA puts forwards the new concept called eLending. Based on the theories on library eLending service, the paper takes a comparative analysis on the library eLending service between China and America. The paper points out the shortcomings of the library in our country. And it also discusses the enlightenment of eLending service in American libraries to the libraries in our country.In this paper, the content is mainly divided into seven chapters. The first chapter is an introduction. It mainly describes the background and significance of the research, the research status both at home and abroad, and the paper’s main research content and methods. The second chapter is an overview of the related theory on library eLending service. It includes the definitions of e-books and eLending, the guiding principles for Library eLending, the characteristics of ebook business models and the significance of the Library’s eLending service.The third to fifth chapter is the introduction and the comparative analysis on the library’s eLending service between China and America. The third part is the introduction and the comparative analysis on current situation. The article mainly carries on the comparative analysis from four aspects:the first is fund’s investment; the second is resource construction; the third is utilization situation and the last is exploration direction.The fourth chapter is the introduction and the comparative analysis on library eLending service modes. It firstly introduces the library eLending service modes in America and China. Then it summarizes their characteristics and takes a comparative analysis on these characteristics. The fifth part is the comparative analysis on external influence factors. The paper respectively takes the comparative analysis from two aspects: publishers’factors and the other ebook servicers’factors.Based on the contents from the second to the fifth chapter, the sixth chapter discusses the enlightenments of eLending service in American Library to our country. It enlightens from these four aspects:pay attention to the basic theory research; strengthening the leadership of the organization; communicating with the publishers actively; and building the open eLending models effectively.The seventh chapter is the conclusions of the whole paper and the outlook for future research.
