Since China’s entry into WTO, the internationalization of culture industry tends to be strengthened and the development of periodical industry becomes a major subject of China’s publishment blueprint. We are faced with opportunities and challenges at the same time with the gradual expansion of development space for periodical trade. Internationalization and efficiency of periodical industry which gets more and more evident during international trade have become one of the critical concerns during the development process of China’s periodical industry.Based on the publications from 1999 to 2012, the essay collects, analyzes and organizes some relevant statistics during the period and charts a graph to better predict the developing tendency of publications trade in China. Taking current situation of China’s publishing industry into account, referring to relevant publishing theory and practice, learning from foreign periodical publications, the essay put forward some suggestions for reference to improve international trade of our periodical industry.Chinese communist party presents the concept of soft power foe the first time at the 17th National People’s Congress and emphases the importance of advancing it. China’s periodical industry represents the soft power of China in the international community to some extent. Thus, the final part of the essay will focus on the pursuit of balance between the internationalization of Chinese periodicals and the soft power of culture.
