A Study On The News Titles Of Three Disasterson "People’s Daily"

The development of the Republic of China, was accompanied by disasters; however, due to some political and media factors, disaster news in China has gone through a long and winding way. Because of its emergency and destructiveness, disaster always gets the attention of the public and media.The paper will have a look at disaster news from a pragmatic and small perspective:title-giving of disaster news. The study target is "People’s Daily", one of the most influential newspapers in China. By comparing titles of disaster news in "People’s Daily" during the Tangshan Earthquake (happened in 1976), the Wenchuan Earthquake (happened in 2008) and the Lushan Earthquake, the paper will make a discussion about do’s and don’ts in title-giving of disaster, in order to provide the media organizations with some reference.The paper is composed of six chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction of the research question and methodology, as well as demonstrates the significance of the study. Chapter 2 clarifies the definition of disaster, disaster news and news title, for the sake of the following study. Chapter 3 introduces the selecting and classifying standards of samples, and decides the categories for comparative study. Chapter 4, the most important chapter of the paper, compares the samples from Tangshan, Wenchuan and Lushan from the aspects of information capacity, art property and emotional preference, then state the sameness and differences in a detailed way. Chapter 5 summarizes the study results of Chapter 4, and explains the causes of such change from three aspects:the government, the media and the public. In the final Chapter, which is Chapter 6, the researcher presents three suggestions as to title-giving of disaster news, hoping to have a little preferential value to the media organizations.
