The research try to analyse nationalism performance on the Global Times based on the sample of series of reports on Diaoyu Islands issue. It finds that the Global Times had represented Japan as an arrogant, overconfident changllenger who sought power by riding and China as a calm, rational and restrained defender who forced to fight back. The sentiment is consistent with the official position and mass depression. On one hand, Global Times express the sentiment of the government and try to make the sentiment understood. On the other hand, Global times cater to the mass mood and advocate that we should take tough measures. Why the Global Times express the nationalism in this way? The research hold that, Global times want to balance the official sentiment and mass mood to get win-win both in the politics areas and economics areas. For one side, Global Times have to support the official position to keep politically correct, for the other side, Global Times cater to the mass mood to improve the circulation and impact, thus, make more profit. After analyzing the nationalism performance on the Global Times and why Global tImes express it in this way, the research consider that, in modern China, politics, nationalism and media is deeply connected with each other. For the political consideration, the party in power need nationalism to make and keep ruling legitimacy. Further more, the ruling party also need nationalism to make policy and let the public recognize the policy. All this can be reached by using the media. For the media side, with the current media policy, media need nationalism to reponse the government policy arrangement and take the initiative to take advantage of the nationalism resource to make economical success.
