The application development of wireless sensor&control networks(WSCN) has high technical barriers, such as hardware design, communication realization, device driver and networking scheme development, these various knowledge sets really slows down beginners’ learning curve. Meanwhile, in the early development stage of a WSCN project, lacking of a simple and convenient development tool to perform a rapid prototyping and performance evaluation leads to more time and money expense. These problems prompt people to find a WSCN development tool, which is easy to understand and simple to operate.Graphical programming development methodology is simple, fast, and easy to read. It can simplify the complex issues. Graphical programming based methods have been widely used in the field of computer science. Based on existing research experience of graphical development software and Freescale’s Sub-GHz RF chip, this paper presents a graphical development software named KW01-GDS.The main work of this paper are as follows:(i)Through further analysis of the structure and characteristics of traditional embedded development platform, this paper proposes a framework for KW01-GDS and illustrates each framework components’ functionalities. Base on this framework, a WSCN node oriented scheme of graphical development platform is introduced.(ii)Focusing on the key elements of the KW01-GDS graphical programming platform: packaging of the drive components, graphical programming icon, code compiling and machine code downloading, to pave the way for the implementation of KW01-GDS graphical programming development platform.(iii)Take previous key elements as the foundation, VS2010 development tool and C# programming languageare used to implement KW01-GDS development platform’s main functions, such as icon creation, icon property settings, and icon interconnection& separation, and some auxiliary functions.With the KW01-GDS development platform, this paper designs and implements a rapid prototyping system for street lamps. The system implements lamp nodes’ networking, providing user to control or inquire street lamps’ on-off state, which also proves the practicability of KW01-GDS development platfor. The preliminary practice shows that using the WSCN node oriented graphical programming software KW01-GDS can effectively help user reduce the difficulties of learning WSCN, improve the teaching effect of embedded system. In some degree, it further promote the popularity of the application of WSCN technology in china.
