In recent years, with the development of economy and society, the Chinese people’s demand for cultural products continues to increase. After the government strongly advocated National Reading, national book reading rate has been some improvement. Meanwhile, affected by the rapid development of digital media, digital reading started to be popular in China. This is a golden period of development of e-books, but Chinese e-book industry has suffered piracy problems, balky. Demand determines the market; the flooding of pirated e-books is closely related to people’s extensive use. College students are an important group of using pirated e-books. So, to research the status quo, impact and causes of college students using pirated e-books are of great significance for the government to combat piracy, the publishers to develop digital publishing industry and the culture’s innovation and prosperity. The main research methods of this paper are questionnaires, individual interviews and literature.Through these methods we can find that the behavior of college students’ using pirated e-books is widespread. If things go on like this, it will do harm to the students themselves, authors and publishers, cultural industries and the country’s image. In this regard, this paper attempts to analyze the reasons from two perspectives, the students themselves and the external environmental. Learning from foreign experience, the paper also tries to explore how to guide students to use more legitimate e-books.Through analysis, although the "Blocking" and "Persuasion" are all effective means to guide students to use legitimate e-books, the "Persuasion" seems to have more influences. For college students, the "Blocking" gets immediate result, but often plays the role of short-term deterrent. While "Persuasion" could change the awareness of college students to read more legitimate e-books, the effect is sustainable. Therefore, when we try to reduce the rate of college students using pirated e-books, we should "block" and "persuade" simultaneously. Meanwhile, put more emphasis on cultivation of college students’ awareness of copyright. Then, when they become the backbone of society, the phenomenon of pirated e-books’ proliferation will be effectively curbed.
