With the development of wireless communication technology and sensor network technology, the demands for a variety of location-based services are more and more in the information society. Some positioning and navigation satellite systems have been launched, such as GPS, Galileo, and BDS. And the civilian scope would be continued to expand for meeting the growing demands of services. However, these positioning and navigation satellite systems have some common problems, such as high price of services, limited scope of application and so on. And the unsuccessful positioning and misaligned precision of GPS and BDS Navigation Satellite System would be occurred at indoor or some semi-enclosed areas. Thus, a new type of regional positioning communication system should be investigated.In this thesis, a novel regional positioning communication system with indoor positioning, voice communication, task scheduling, and vehicles control functions was designed. A large cargo warehouse was made as the implementations object of this system, which included five main parts as follow:the system gateway, the positioning aid, handheld positioning terminal, vehicle positioning terminal and dispatching management center. The whole system was designed, including the hardware and software.The system gateway was connected with the dispatching management center to achieve establishing and maintaining wireless sensor networks, parsing and retransmitting the commands issued, and receiving and uploading the communication data. In addition, the system gateway was a communication terminal, which was used to achieve the voice communication between administrators and warehouse workers.The positioning aid was a designed auxiliary device in order to assist the positioning terminal to achieve the positioning function, which was installed in the corners, corridors and other places of the warehouse. Zigbee CC2430 was used as the system gateway and the positioning aids.As well as the vehicle positioning terminal, the handheld positioning terminal was achieved by Zigbee CC2431 with a positioning engine. However, the vehicle positioning terminal had the function of control the vehicle.Monitoring and management software for positioning communication was designed in the dispatching management center based on Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, This center could be achieved many functions, such as visual display of the positioning results, generated task list and automatically issued to the corresponding terminal depending on the realistic needs, remote control of the vehicle and so on.Experimental results indicated that the whole system worked normally and stably with good positioning of human and vehicles, and reasonable control of the vehicle and voice communication. The system could achieve remote real-time monitoring and centralization management to the human and the vehicles at a unified management platform of the warehouse. In addition, this system had other features, such as simple structure, low cost, stable function, good applicability, and would have a very broad application prospect in the future.
