An Analysis Of The Jiangsu Province News Conference Content And News Services

Hereditary leads to Chinese not having the tradition of valuing the public’s right to know in the history. With the influence of information freedom and governing concept from modern western countries as well as the needs for right to know in Chinese social transition, researches on government press conference are fruitful. However, these results focus on more on the system itself, there is few on the case study. This article pays attention to government press conference of Jiangsu province in 2013, depicting its presentation and regular pattern.The research design takes government press conference of Jiangsu province in 2013 as a sample and is based on the contents of the press conference, in order to outline the presented state of government’s interaction with mass media during the press conference by the unstructured interviews with the spokesman and journalists as well as their readme. The research is divided into eight parts, it contains administrative information, major activities, policies and regulations, the livelihood of the people in society, economy, trade, shipping, industry development, unexpected events. The research tries to find out the relevancy between conference agenda setting and news service and analysis whether government’s agenda setting and news conference service match or not. In order to achieve these goals, I will compare and analysis the 32 charts through encode the law of the conference, and statistical indicators. At the same time, I will prove the social process of the criticism of the government press conference, and present the reality behind the news conference, outlined the government press conference in the interaction with the mass media through semi-structured interviews to the government spokesman and media reporters.The conclusions are as followed:Judging from issues from government press conference of Jiangsu province, there is a clear boundary:firstly, the government has begun to attach importance to the press conference which has become institutionalized and standardized, and the government has guided public opinion through agenda-setting function. Secondly, the agenda-setting tends to announce the administrative information, which has a strong consciousness of droid and social management. In the framework of this research design, there’s an obvious gap between agenda-setting and news requirements. Although the date on the government conference in this article cannot reflect the degree of medium’s concerns for the conference topics, the sample statistical data has sketched out medium’s interesting points about the press conference, such as:the need for social information on livelihood. However, the government press conference cannot focus their issues on the conference focused on the needs of the local public and medium.In the framework of this paper, there is an obvious gap between the government conference agenda setting and the news service requirements. From media reports and the audience’s right to know, the government news release obviously cannot meet the current media attention. Although, in this paper, the related data of government conference cannot fully reflect the mass media’s attention to the theme of conference, but from the sample statistical data, the outline of the media interest in the conference has been clearly pointed, such as:the demand for social information of the people’s livelihood. And the government conference cannot focus on local issues and media’s own requirements.This article also proposes some advices aimed at the condition of government press conference:establish the government news release system of meeting, answer and respond to social hot issues. Conference on the contents of the issue should reduce social administrative controls but increase the news. There should also be more crosses with the news media reporters and they should reduce administrative information release, increase social information about people’s livelihood and hot issues.
