Tire tag recognition technology belongs to the category of intelligent tires which uses radio frequency identification technology to realize the management of tire from the production, testing, sales to scrap all of the life cycle, and has formed unique advantages in tire production, product traceability, tire renovation, and many other fields. But the tire is a complex system which is composed of a variety of rubber material and steel frame structure. At the same time, tire material’s electrical properties and tire steel wire cord fabric structure will affect the signal of RFID tags implanted in the tire. So, in this paper, a simulation research on RFID tag antenna implanted in tire has been done with the method of electromagnetic simulation based on the theory of electromagnetic wave propagation in the rubber medium and the basic theory of the spiral antenna, and several aspects of work have been carried on as following:(1) Explored the main factors of tire internal material and structure influencing the UHF RFID tag antenna’s performance tire internal material and structure. Analyzed the main parameters of performance evaluated tire RIFD tag antenna. These work laid foundation for simulation research of RFID tag antenna implanted in tires.(2) Studied the performance parameters of spiral spring antenna in the air by the method of electromagnetic simulation, such as gain, resonant frequency, and impedance.(3) Established the rubber body simulation model containing tire materials and RFID tag antenna in FEKO. Analyzed the performance’s affection of material dielectric properties to RFID tag antenna implanted in tire.(4) Established the simulation model containing tire steel wire cord and RFID tag antenna in FEKO. Analyzed the performance’s affection of the location and distance between steel wire cord and RFID tag antenna to RFID tag antenna implanted in tire.(5) Established the simulation model containing tire integral structure and RFID tag antenna. Analyzed the performance’s affection of the tire material and structure to RFID tag antenna from the overall perspective.Summarized several main conclusions through above jobs as following:(1) Compared with the performance of RFID tag antenna in the air, the performances of RFID tag antenna become generally lower after implanted into tires. The changes of tire material dielectric and loss tangent will affect RFID tag antenna’s gain, resonance frequency and matching relationship between tag antenna and tag chip. These affections lead to reducing reliability of RFID tag and cutting down reading distance of RFID tag. When RFID tag antenna implanted into the tire, the impact of tire material parameters to RFID tag antenna should be considered.(2) The steel wire cord generally exists in tire is one of the main factors which affecting performances of RFID tag antenna which is implanted into tire. The parallel relationship between RFID tag and steel wire cord is harmful for the reading of RFID tag information. RFID tag antenna will get better performances when it is vertical to the steel wire cord. So,the RFID tag must be vertical to the steel wire cord when it is implanted into the tire.(3) The distance between RFID tag and steel wire cord will also affect the performances of RFID tag antenna. Tag antenna’s performance dropped significantly when the distance between RFID tag and steel wire cord is less than 4mm.Therefor,when RFID tag implanted into tire, the distance between RFID tag and steel wire cord must be farer than 4mm.(4) The actual work environment of RFID tag is very complicated. When RFID tag implanted into tire, all of these factors should be taken into account.
