In recent years, radial tire is widely used gradually because of its many advantages. Therefore, detecting the defects of radial tires become necessary for on-line testing. On one hand, various non-destructive testing equipments or methods exist some deficiencies more or less. On the other hand, with nation's regard to the problem of security of vehicles, on-line testing for radial tire develops gradually as a focus of research. However, the tire inspection equipments imported from abroad are extraordinary expensive. Accordingly, to study a new testing system with low cost and less wasting of resources will not only promote the development of the field of non-destructive testing, but also have significant realistic meaning in aspect of researching and manufacturing radial tire on-line testing equipment with our independent intellectual property right.This paper proposed a new magnetic detection method to identify the defects of radial tire with magnetic inspecting principle. This method uses the magnetic sensor in electronic compass to detect the phenomenon of geomagnetism variation when the steel wires of steel cord approach the sensors. This paper analyzed the change law of magnetic field data from magnetic sensors to find defects of steel cord. Two kinds of sensor, Magneto resistive Sensor and Magneto-Inductive Sensor, were chosen to get different magnetic field data. Then this paper contrasts and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages and accuracy of the system consisted of this two kinds of sensors.This paper illustrated the principle of the inspecting method, and introduced in detail the designing way of system's hardware and software. At the end, according to analyze and build the corresponding relation of the change situation of magnetic field data and the defects of steel cord, we gave large numbers of experimental results. It proved the feasibility of this new magnetic detection method, and lays a foundation for the system to be an available product of tire production line.
