Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) is an important part of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). It is designed for communication between vehicles specially, which apply self-organizing technology to communication between vehicles creatively, so that users can collect the information about others1 location or the real-time traffic. Due to its global traffic monitoring and intelligent traffic guidance, it can prevent traffic accidents and reduce the property loss. Although sharing the large number of vehicle user information brings us convenience, it also comes to be an enormous threat to users’ privacy. To this end, designing an anonymous authentication scheme which is suitable for VANET is becoming a key problem in VANET. Therefore, the research on anonymous authentication in VANET has a significant theoretic importance and practice value.VANET include two kinds of communication mode:Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Roadside (V2R). Among them, V2R communication needs to meet the following properties:(1) message integrity, source authentication and non-repudiation of RSU, (2) privacy preserving, authentication, message integrity and non-repudiation of OBU. At present, the majority of researches on security of V2R focus on properties of RSU’s message integrity and authentication. However, the conditional privacy preserving and non-repudiation are very indispensable security requirements in VANET as well. Hence, this paper combines the characteristics and security requirements of VANET to make a research on secure anonymous authentication protocol in VANET:Firstly, we propose a V2R anonymous authentication protocol for VANET based on certificateless signature scheme. With the development of wireless communication technology, Vehicular Ad-hoc Network is increasingly prevalent in the daily life, and its security becomes a research hotspot. Vehicle’s identity is the exclusive user’s legitimate identification stored in Trusted Centre, which directly related to the vehicle user’s information, so that its anonymous authentication is one aspect of the users’ privacy preserving. Based on a certificateless signature scheme, we propose an anonymous authentication protocol without the management of certificate and the problem of key escrow. Finally we analyze the security and the performance of our protocol and conclude that the scheme not only can satisfy the conditional privacy preserving and non-repudiation so that enforce anonymous authentication between OBU and RSU, but also apparently better than the traditional authentication protocols in terms of efficiency, which is a both secure and efficient V2R anonymous authentication protocol.Secondly, we propose a message batch authentication scheme based on deterministic parallelizable message authentication code (DPMAC). According to the security requirements of VANET, message integrity is one of the most basic security requirements in VANET. Generally, we apply Message Authentication Code (MAC) to implement and guarantee message integrity in public key cryptosystem. In the anonymous authentication protocol based on certificateless signature above mentioned, MAC is used for authentication between OBU and RSU. Accordingly in this paper, we propose a message batch authentication scheme based on deterministic parallelizable message authentication code (DPMAC) which is more efficient than the traditional serial MAC, as hash based message authentication code (HMAC) etc. Moreover, it also accomplishes the message aggregate and batch certification. Finally we analyze the integrity and the performance of our scheme and conclude that it not only improves the speed of message authentication greatly, but also cuts down on communication overhead. Finally, we present the main contribution of this paper and look into the future about the unfinished work and research directions.
