Railway Transport, as the most known efficient mode of overland shipping, is the main artery of domestic transportations. With the development of computer and Internet, the primary low-efficient manual ticketing is gradually replaced by the ticketing system based on cyber software. Emerging online booking especially facilitate reservations thus convenience people’s daily life.During many forms of ticketing, POS (Point-Of-Sale) passenger ticketing is an important form focuses on the payment of excess fare. Rail operators use it to perform the ticketing on trains in running given its portability and practicability. It is feasible for POS to upload ticketing information to the database of the server in given time and do some simple inquiries and statistics. China owns 18 regional rail operators in its vast territory. It was found through research that the differences of ticketing systems of each rail operator and the lack of common standard resulting from the bounded system lead to not only huge costs of hardware and software and their renewing but also the deficiency of system security. On the basis of a profound study of passenger ticketing systems in two domestic railway operators, the paper redesigns the structure of hardware and software of the POS passenger ticketing system. The redesigned system adopts the C/S software architecture, the server side developed by QT and the client based on Linux operating system. The paper designs a reliable communication protocol between host computer software and console computer on the base of previous work, hardware architecture and software architecture, also implements the algorithm of ticket-price computing. This thesis attempts to build a complete system with common standards and regulations, also gives consideration to the availability, usability and security of the system. Hopefully it would provide references fors the update of passenger ticketing system in the future.
