Since reform and open policy, the development of market economy promotes the reform in publishing field, breaking the single publishing model under the planned economy. And informal publishing becomes one of the important ways to achieve publication. Around the nineties of the 20th century, there appeared biography writing and publishing boom, biographies and memoirs as representative works of "personal narrative" into the golden period of development. This paper selects 179 kinds of "personal narrative" informal publications in Nanjing university library as the research object, using the methods of literature investigation, case analysis and comparative study to analyze the values, characteristics and causes. Then it puts forward six suggestions for the "personal narrative" informal publications construction.In the ’personal narrative" works, the authors recall about their past life experiences, thought style, personality traits, and opinions about some history events in their works. Because of the rich content, different books have different values. This paper mainly discusses the literature values of biographies and memoirs, based on the ’personal narrative" informal publications of Nanjing university library collections.For the literature characteristics of "personal narrative" informal publications, this article elaborates it from four aspects. Firstly, the content is documentary, literary, minority and sensitivity. Secondly, the authors are old aging, mainly retiring from the state organs, education field, or press field, and have the characteristics of centralized professions. Thirdly, the literature style is mature and random, and the articles are arranged according to time or topic. Fourthly, the publishing has characteristics of continuity, dynamic, concealment, and quality differences.Why there is the "personal narrative" informal publications? On the one hand, it is inseparable from the social environment. The current publishing environment, publishing technology and publishing mechanism, etc. are important factors. On the other hand, its appearance is inevitable, many publications containing prohibited content, while some authors do not want their works published publicly. In short, it is produced in the result of external interaction.Through the study of "personal narrative" informal publications, six recommendations are raised for the library literature resources construction. First, the library should pay more attention to "personal narrative" informal publications; Second, the library should explore effective collection methods, and develop a reasonable acquisition principles; Third, the library should fully reveal the bibliographic information, and share the "personal narrative" informal publications; Fourth, informal publications should be preserved as library special collections; Fifth, the library should make great efforts to promote informal publications by library journals, calling for more attention to the informal publications; Six, the library should strive for national support in policies.
