Fast steering mirror (FSM) is a kind of optical scanning device, which is widely used inLaser Radar, space optical communication and adaptive optics field. FSM has highrequirements for the drive and control circuit which directly affects FSM’s scanning angle, precision, linearity and so on.According to the demands, this paper designed a drive and control circuit of FSM basedon field programmable gate array (FPGA), the main content includes the following parts:(1)By analyzing the structures of the sub-FSM and array FSM of four mirrors, theirdrive and control circuit are put forward based on FPGA.(2)Introduce the design of four mirrors FSM drive and control circuit and the selectionsof the key components. The circuit mainly consists of the main controller module, analog todigital conversion module, digital to analog conversion module, external storage, controllernetwork area (CAN) module and power module. According to the device layout andmultilayer wiring, printed circuit board (PCB) is designed and manufactured.(3)Based on finite state machine, the program modules of conversion data acquisitionand digital to analog conversion are designed by using Verilog HDL. The data sending andreceiving sequential control of CAN are designed by query method. The Quartus Ⅱsoftware simulation verifies the correctness of design.(4)Drive and control circuit of array FSM is debugged to verify the reliability of thesystem hardware environment. A system of performance test is built up to test theperformance of the two dimensional piezoelectric FSM driving by triangle wave. Theexperimental results show that the four mirrors FSM driving control circuit meets therequirements of the system.
