In recent years the rapid development of EPON technology and its applications, EPON technology has become international and domestic equipment suppliers and telecom operators and other technology hot spots of concern. China Unicom is also actively involved in EPON testing and construction work. I took part in the Beijing branch of China Unicom two leaders of the Silicon Valley area broadband access project, including FTTH solution identification, equipment selection, construction and post-maintenance. This paper is based on the project.This article first describes the status of the access network, based on the current EPON and GPON more advanced technology, a detailed analysis of contrast. EPON technology is currently recognized for the more mature operators feasible. Then specify the structure of the EPON system, working principle and key technologies. Secondly, the leaders of the Silicon Valley community for the geographical distribution of projects and user demand for bandwidth, business analysis and appraisal to establish the most suitable for the district’s EPON FTTH broadband access way construction. Some business requirements from the user put forward in consideration the FTTH EPON-based full-service access network solutions, and this program specific network structure and composition of the equipment used in the analysis, design, and description.Construction and implementation of this project has now completed and passed all tests and formally put into operation, the end user broadband services to the community access to high bandwidth, high belt speed, multi-service access requirements. Also, after I passed the operation and maintenance, troubleshooting the accumulation of work, summarized a series of business failures EPON users approach for end office outside personnel to provide troubleshooting reference standard, greatly reducing the barriers to treatment duration, improve operational service quality.
