FTTB/FTTH Access Technology Research And Design Based On EPON

Nowadays, end-users’demand for high speed bandwidth are increasing urgently, but thebottleneck lies on the last part–Internet access point to end-users at home. While EPONtechnology is an inevitable solution to it.The EPON technology which is applied on FTTX networking is the creative accessingtechnology. It is the combination of Ethernet technology and passive optical network andfixes various problems of current accessing network, such as lack of flexibility and weaklyextensibility etc. Most importantly, it enables the transferring of data, video and voiceinformation on the telecommunication network and the integration of “three networks”.together on “one line”."Fiber In Copper Out" and deploying FTTH/FTTO, is one of China Telecom’s keynetwork strategy and PON technology will be the best option to pursue this network strategy.With the EPON technology getting more ore and more matured and substantial decline inprices began to scale business, we believe that fiber access network will be widely deployedin the future driven by high bandwidth demand and high traffic volume.First and more, the paper reviews the base of Ethernet Passive Optical Network, thecurrent status of PON standards, and the development of EPON. Next, it discusses the EPONnetwork planning (including OLT and ONU deployment planning) and ODN respectively.Finally the paper focuses on EPON technology in access network and discusses the differentscenarios in network deployment and hot issues in application.This paper will provide EPON access network design for China Telecom FTTH ODNproject in Nanhai, detailing the Optical cable routing and technology indictors for keyequipment (OLT and ONU). By taking practical business planning and current netwoek modeinto consideration, the paper according to the actual business arrangement in order to provethe performance, the application of EPON in broadband access network to the user, andcombine the FTTX system network model discussed earlier, the proposed cell FTTH accesscase analysis, detailed service configuration process zone FTTH networking scenarios, theultimate success of Internet, IPTV program and VOIP voice service power sharing within theDistrict, the list of issues related to business opened after the encounter and proposedsolutions. The success of the open EPON system and the interconnection of different businessprovide the reference and basis of analysis of EPON in broadband access network integrated services.
