Archives can acquire the records through private donations and purchases. National-Provincial-Municipal level public archives and community archives focus on acquisition and preservation of private records.The main content of this paper is about private records. The first chapter introduces the research background and literature review and knows the blank areas of archivists for studying private records of Canada. The second chapter describes traditional and current situation of the acquisition of private records of Canada and the changes of private records acquisition policy in three different historical periods from19th Century to present. The third chapter states National-Provincial-Municipal level public archives acquire public records and private records and make private records strategy.
