With the development of information systems, cloud computing has been introduced in many companies. Cloud computing, especially IaaS, is in a boom phase in China. However, it is not clear that whether IaaS have positive influences on firm performance and how can enterprises use IaaS to improve firm performance. At the same time, the academic study of cloud computing is shifting from a technical perspective to a business perspective. Therefore, the research of IaaS’s influence on orgasizational performance has a great influence in theory and practical application. The purpose of this dissertation is to study the relationships between IaaS and firm performance through the process perspective and to find out how IaaS influence firm performance. We made a comprehensive analysis of cloud computing and IT business value and chose resource-based view as the theory base. We come up with a concept of cloud-based technical capability and develop a conceptual model involving cloud-based technical capability, business process performance and firm performance. The study found that cloud-based technical capability has a positive effect on business process performance and has a positive effect on firm performance through business process performance. Business process performance has a positive mediating effect between cloud-based technical capability and firm performance. The alignment of cloud computing and business does not have a significantly moderating effect. Finally, we concluded the contribution of this dissertation on theory research and discussed the objection of this dissertation and further direction of future research.
