With the developing of Internet, the city is constantly advancing its intelligence. This intelligence is inseparable from the development and realization of WLAN. WLAN can bring great convenience to people’s daily lives. To achieve coverage not only in office buildings, hospitals, hotels, shopping malls and other indoor scenes coverage, but also in squares, streets, parks and other expansive outdoor area, WLAN coverage area must gradually extend to the outdoors. The outdoor environment is more complex and interference outdoor is stronger, it requires the AP with wider coverage distance. But the current AP is mainly used in indoor with short coverage distance, it cannot meet the requirements of outdoor coverage. Therefore, in order to achieve full coverage of urban WLAN networks, it’s necessary to study the outdoor WLAN coverage, get received power, SINR, PeakThroughput, and other performance indicators through simulation to guide the actual outdoor WLAN networks.The main content of the paper is divided into four parts. Firstly, study the key technology of WLAN physical and MAC layer according to IEEE802.11n protocol, including MIMO, OFDM, FEC, Short GI, Frame Aggregation and Block ACK technology.Secondly, explains the basic concepts of wireless network planning, introduces the basic principles and factors that affect the planning of outdoor coverage, briefly introduced the Mesh networks.Thirdly, describes the algorithm design of WLAN coverage prediction, describes the detail of frequency planning, link budget, interference calculation and calculation of each study. Finally, describes the realization of WLAN coverage prediction function, introduces the overall software structure and subsystems coverage prediction involved, detailed describes the interface design and class design of coverage prediction module. Through.NET programming, realize the WLAN coverage prediction function on U-Net simulation platform, the simulation results and statistics were presented.
