This paper discusses Shanghai General Motor (SGM)’s vehicle components purchasing and supply management system. The system’s developing goal is to face the fast changing market and clients’ diverse requirements, and support the enterprise’s multiple varieties and small batch products strategy. Therefore, the system solves the problems of purchasing batches computing and orders creating by information technology, which in detail are the scientific decision of what components to purchases, how many to order and when to order.Focusing on the above key problem, this paper discusses design and implementation of the purchasing and supply system (Shanghai GM/Import Component Purchasing System, SGM/ICPS hereafter) SGM/ICPS from the view of software developing. First, it outlined introduces the system’s developing theory and technology foundation, including product management, supply chain management and company database technology. Then, it gives the system’s function analysis, including components demand computing function, order generating function, supplier and logistic information management function, order transaction processing function, and components inventory control function. It also gives the above functions’ corresponding user cases. This system’s design structure is a distributed system with multiple structures. The paper also systematically discusses the software structure, database design scenario and the system’s internal main processing process, and gives the system’s programming implementation.SGM/ICPS system is developed based on multiple layer structure. The applied server programming uses Java, the background database platform programming uses SQL, and the database system is implemented by Oracle10enterprise database. The system has been finished testing and test run inspection, and reaches its anticipated developing target.
