China, a big agricultural country, has quantities of crops to be stored. Due tothe lack of accurateness for monitoring those crops during the storage process, mildew and rot have caused great economic losses annually. Therefore theapplication of wireless sensor network to the crop storage can provide a moreaccurate real-time monitoring for crop storage environment, guaranteeing a bettercrop storage. Despite a relatively less application of wireless sensor technology tothe crop storage domestically, the characteristics of wireless sensor networktechnology make it the perfect candidate for crops storage. Wireless sensor networkis the one which consists of numerous tiny sensors deployed in monitoring area, detecting and collecting information within the monitoring area through wirelesscommunication mode of multiple hops self-organizing network system, and thensend those messages to the monitor. This paper aims at designing such a special wireless real-time monitoringsystem to satisfy the storage environment like cellar for farmers, cold store, etc, Bysetting the wireless sensor network node in the monitoring area as storage cellar, basement and cold storage etc, and by depending on the parameter of the detectedtemperature, humidity and CO2concentration to determine the way and the timethose crops be stored. In terms of the design, we set wireless sensor network node using Si1000ascentral processing unit and Radio Frequency (RF) unit, which has a built-intemperature and humidity sensor and a CO2concentration sensor. The sensorconveys the collected message to the central processing (CP) unit, and the CP unitsends them to the host through RF unit. Late, the host will process those data andtransform them to the upper computer so that it can monitor the storageenvironment automatically. In order to reduce power consumption and meet thedesign requirement simultaneously, we adopt the node using asynchronousfrequency clock interrupt way of wake up, the system adopting the method oftime-sharing acquisition, and the host setting in communication interface to sendthe collected data to upper computer.
