Along with the development of communication technology and market of network,Ethernet technology develops rapidly and now has been widely recognized. In the last20thcentury, Ethernet has been widely used in the local area(LAN).In recent decades, manyresearchers and experts, and the ISP (Internet Service Provider), find more and moreadvantages from its application and hope that the Ethernet technology can be used in themetropolitan area network and wide area network.However the defect of Ethernettechnology in the aspect of the OAM(Operation Administration and Maintenance), resultsin a constraint for the development and widely application of Ethernet technology in thewide area network.In order to solve the problem of OAM defects of Ethernet technology, IEEE proposedrespectively802.1ag and802.3ah standards in2004and2007,ITU-T also put forwardedY.1731standards in2008, etc. These standards makes up the defect of the Ethernettechnology in the aspect of the OAM in a certain degree, meeting the requirements ofcarrier-grade Ethernet new standards. They implement the function of Ethernet OAM indifferent way.This paper implements the OAM functions based on IEEE802.3ah, and analysesOAMPDU format in detail from the aspects of several OAM functions, in the core chaptersalso puts forward a kind of chip selection and software platform selection Suggestions,highlights the OAM overall design and each module function design, message sending andreceiving process. The whole thesis gives a kind of scheme design from hardware tosoftware. In addition, on the basis of needs of the company, we extend the functions, forexample the management,configuration and upgrade of the remote device,etc. ExtendedOAM functions are described from the message format analysis, module design, messagesending and receiving and processing in detail.
