The issuing of4G licenses brought the trend of evolution of the communicationnetwork to a real broadband communication network evolution. The boosting userrequirements, guaranteeing of QOS (quality of communication service) and commercializingof IPTV will all cruelly test on the network of operators. Our communication networks arehard to carry such high-required communication service due to the lag of technology and therestrictions on physical transmission media, which forces us to improve the existing network. And we need to improve not only technology but also network model. In such a high speed communication era, the existing packet networks have beenupgraded from the original supporting role to the protagonist, because it can steadily carryhigh-speed broadband communication, and provide stable QOS, and higher capability ofnetwork management. Fiber carrying was used for the transmission media, which greatlyenhanced the communication speed. The cost of operation was decreased dramaticallybecause the use of PON (passive optical network technology) technology, which has becomethe mainstream of communication network technology. In this thesis, the effect of service network on fiber instead of copper and PONtechnology are introduced first. Bases on these, the evolution schemes of technologies andnetwork structures during the evolution of fiber instead of copper are studied; the evolutiondirection after fiber instead of copper and the detail schemes of network evolution are given.
