PACS(Picture Archiving and Communication System) is a distributed system which comprehensive achieves the obtaining, display, store, transmission and managing of medicinal image. This system can save the consumption of films and cost.it can also improve the diagnoses effect and work efficiency.it is the inevitable trend of information-based development of the hospital in the future. By the establishment of DICOM(Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) and HL7(Health Level7),PACS has truly turned into a practical stage.This article summarizes the necessity, importance, development at home and abroad, current research and future trend of PACS, and emphasize the development and problems of PACS in China. Introduces the medical DICOM, HL7standards, medical image compression technology-JPEG2000.Joined with PACS related some key technologies of basic theory. According to the profession’s characteristic, author mainly to orthopedics hospital’s PACS system’s medicinal image’s processing and the stored, PACS and HIS’s integration and the database carried on the system design, the detailed design with to realize. Designed the patient basic information table, the medical record table, the pictorial information table, the image data sheet and so on four most main data sheet’s. Through to the HL7/DICOM gateway’s design, has realized PACS and HIS based on the middle table integration.This study will provide certain theoretical support to the development of small and medium-sized medical PACS system, and provide certain reference basis to formulate the specific implementation of PACS standards.
