With the continuous development of control technology, the degree of automation in marine engine room process control system is improved. As important parts of marine engine room process control system, fuel oil viscosity control system and diesel engine cooling water temperature control system have been important research subjects in the field of ship process control.An advanced million TEU container ship is adapted as the main object of study in this paper. Firstly, the operation process and the dynamic characteristics of typical marine engine room process control system are analyzed. The working principle and components of fuel oil viscosity control system and cooling water temperature control system are introduced. According to the law of energy conservation and thermodynamic principle, the mathematical models of major system components are established, including heater, viscosity meter, steam control valve, and so on. Secondly, for the insensitive to parameter variation or disturbance and the advantage of fast response, sliding mode variable structure controller based on exponential reaching law is designed and used in fuel oil system and cooling water system. By using simulation tools of MATLAB/Simulink, the simulation model is established, and the simulation of control algorithm is realized. Then, in order to overcome the chattering of classical sliding mode control, variable exponent reaching law is used to optimize the controller. The optimized sliding mode controller and the traditional PID controller are applied to simulation systems respectively. Simulation results show that the optimized sliding mode controller has good performance, strong adaptability and robustness.On the basis of mathematical modeling and control simulation, combining with the working situation of fuel oil viscosity control system in container ship, simulation training system of fuel oil viscosity is designed and developed by using programming software Visual C++. The training system has good visual human-computer interaction function, and can simulate the system dynamic process. Furthermore, the process parameters can be modified online, and the fault can be set in the training system. Simulation results show that the simulation training system can meet the demand of teaching and training, and has been applied to turbine simulator at present.
