Study On The Crowdfunding Pattern Of Journalism In The Internet Era

Upon the arrival of the Internet era, journalism is facing severe challenges such asaudience drain, shortage of funds and intensified industry competition, and worldwidenews media are all trying to reform their pattern of news production and operation so asto meet the needs of the development of the times. It is precisely at this moment thatcrowdfunding journalism sprouts and develops. This pattern has achieved good resultsin some countries and regions and it provides a feasible plan for the sound developmentof journalism in the future.Crowdfunding journalism has made great achievements within a short period oftime and injected fresh blood into the innovation of news production pattern. This papergoes deep into crowdfunding journalism mainly from four aspects. Firstly, it introducesthe concept, characteristics and development situation at home and abroad ofcrowdfunding journalism. Secondly, it summarizes the conditions for the generation anddevelopment of crowdfunding journalism: the development of Internet technology,sluggish news production of traditional media and audience’s rigid demand forhigh-quality contents have contributed to the development of crowdfunding journalism.Compared with other crowdfunding programs, however, the scale of crowdfundingjournalism is barely satisfactory: the news programs on Chinese crowdfunding websitesare cancelled and the famous foreign specialized crowdfunding websites also stoprunning. Thirdly, the reasons for the limited scale are analyzed, which can besummarized as the contradiction of journalism itself, the absence of suitable businessmodel and the likeliness to violate legal policies. At last, the future development ofcrowdfunding journalism is studied on the basis of the above analysis, which is ofpractical significance. Either for the legal support of the State or for the establishment ofa reasonable business model of crowdfunding websites, forces in various aspects allneed to be coordinated. Only in this way can crowdfunding journalism achieve steadyprogress and provide reference for the current news production pattern.
