With the widely using of the mobile Internet, digital content on smart terminals becomes not only more and more abundant but also more and more expensive, DRM technology turns out to be more frequently used on mobile devices. As mobile phones and tablets start to saturate in smart devices markets, smart STBs and its video media service have drawn major manufacturers’attention. As a result, the research and application of DRM technology on STBs is becoming increasingly important.Although OMA DRM standard is an existing DRM standard designed for mobile device, yet in practical use, the standard has defects like do not support streaming media service, hard to deploy, less efficient, have a high resource occupation and exist potential safety hazards.This paper which combines theoretical research with engineering implementation proposes a completed lightweight DRM framework for mobile streaming media. And a DRM protection system for mobile streaming media on Android STB is designed and implemented based on the proposed DRM framework. Validation tests for the core modules verify the feasibility of the proposed schema. Besides, a comparison experiment between the DRM system designed in the paper and the system implemented based on OMA DRM is conducted. Experiment result shows that the DRM system for mobile streaming media proposed in this paper indeed solves the problems existing in the OMA DRM standard. The major innovation points include:1) A completed DRM framework for mobile streaming media is proposed, which describes the completed protection mechanism for streaming media on mobile devices in detail. The protection mechanism includes authentication, key agreement, rights object acquisition, content object acquisition and DRM media content playback.2) An efficient encryption/decryption algorithm for DRM protection to mobile streaming media is proposed in this paper, which includes encryption/decryption process, key generation process and key distribution process.3) A DEM protection system for mobile streaming media on Android STB is designed and implemented based on Android DRM Framework mechanism. In detail, the DRM related processes in the system is implemented in the way of DRM Plugin and a Local Media Server is used to provide video bit stream to the player. The system is designed in this way such that to gain a very low degree of coupling and a high degree of universality, compatibility and maintainability.
