The appearance and development of power electronic technology brings a huge number of harmonics injected to the power grid system. The harmonics would deteriorate electric energy quality and produce further hazard to power system. Hence, how to degrade harmonic level while applying the high-tech equipments draws increasing number of entrepreneurs’ attention. In this thesis, the great harm of harmonics to grid system is introduced; in the meanwhile, the methods of reducing harmonic at home and abroad are analyzed. The advantages of active power filter are also listed, compared with passive power filter.Space vector pulse width module (SVPWM) and ip-iq harmonics detection method based on instantaneous reactive power theory are proposed specifically before mathematical model of active power filter in this thesis are given. A kind of digital low pass filter is designed to extract harmonics from the current wave in power system. To ensure the reliability of active power filter designed, Simulation on the accuracy of harmonic detection based on ip-iq coordinate exchange and on the validity of voltage-loop and current-loop is needed. In the3rd chapter of this thesis, harmonics detection sector, voltage-loop and current-loop sector and inverse control sector for current compensation are simulated based on Simulink (a child module of simulation software Matlab) to make it possible to set up the APF experimental system.A kind of shunt active power filter is designed based on TMS320LF2407A (a kind of DSP produced by TI Company) after the theoretical analysis and simulation experiment. The hardware system designed in this thesis is introduced specifically and the experimental platform is established.
