With the development of power electronics, more and more power electronic equipments are used in power grid. Harmonic pollution of the power system is getting worse. Because of the active power filter's good performance in compensation harmonic current, more and more attention is paid to it.Real-time, accuracy in harmonic current detection is critical to the compensation performance of the active power filter. So this paper introduces an improved harmonic current detection method. In ideal and non-ideal circumstances, comparative study is done between the improved harmonic detection and the traditional ip-iq method. The results of the study show that the improved harmonic detection method is superior to the traditional one in harmonic and reactive current detection.The SVPWM control method is introduced in control of the APF's compensation current. This method can overcome the traditional triangular carrier comparison method's poor performance in dynamic response and the switching frequency fluctuations in the way of the hysteresis control. With the SVPWM control, the whole system is performance well in dynamic response. What's more, the switching frequency is constant.The sisotool of the matlab is introduced to assist in designing of the PI regulator. The result shows that the parameters of the PI regulator getting from the matlab is effective. In the realization of the whole system, the design procedure is shown in the paper. The DSP-TMS320F2812 chip is selected as the main control chip. The main parts of the hardware is analyzed. Flowchart of the software is given in detail in this paper.Finally, the simulation model is established in the Matlab-Simulink environment. The performance of the active power filter with two different harmonic detection methods is compared. The result shows that the active power filter with improved harmonic detection method can improve the quality of the power system at least 0.5 percentage than the one with ip-iq method.
