WirelessHART protocol is a kind of safe, robust network communication protocol applied in specialized field of industrial process automation with wireless network topology. It provides a wireless network solution for the services of industrial process monitoring, online testing and diagnostics and for production cost reduction, product quality and production efficiency improvement in industrial process automation. Cognitive technology can increase the utilization ratio of the sources and improve the end-to-end performance by adopting the principle of cognition. It can be applied to the industry wireless network based on WirelessHART protocol of which the performance would be perfected. In the light of above demands, this paper mainly aims at implementing the simulation model of CR by studying WirelessHART protocol, CR model and the related contents of NS2simulation.Firstly, this paper introduced the network structure based on wirelessHART in detail, the problems of each layers, such as physical layer, medium access control layer and the key techniques of TDMA state machine, adaptive frequency hopping and the others. Then the basic principle of NS2simulation, wireless simulation model and mobile node model were investigated. This paper referred to the RF Chip CC2430as radio parameters, which has high performance and meets the hardware requirements of IEEE802.15.4.A protocol stack model was built in NS2and some typical simulation scenarios were setup to analyze the end-to-end delay, jitter, throughput and energy consumption. The simulation results verified a good performance of the network based on WirelessHART protocol and the protocol completely satisfies the requirements of the industry wireless technique. Finally, introducing cognitive strategy into WirelessHART protocol enables mobile nodes to automatically scan spectrum holes once the collision occurs during the packet transmission and rebuild the clean channel to retransmit the packet. This method can increase the utilization rate of spectrum resources and improve the end-to-end delay and throughput. Simulation results following the extension of components and functions show that the cognitive model has effectively realized the objective in this paper.
