WirelessHART protocol is a kind of network communication protocols used in specialized field of industrial process automation with wireless network topology. In accordance with the simplicity, reliability and security design criteria, it provides a wireless network solution with low cost, low transmission rate, easy maintenance, high flexibility, rapid implementation and compatibility with WiredHART devices for the services of industrial process monitoring, property management, online testing and diagnostics and for production cost reduction, product quality and production efficiency improvement in industrial process automation.The construction and operation of WirelessHART protocol stack is the basis for various WirelessHART applications. The design methods and implementation steps for WirelessHART protocol stack have been proposed by research of more than 1300 pages WirelessHART protocol with firstly the software and hardware environment based on TinyOS and CC2430 respectively, secondly the development environment based on nesC, thirdly the design and implementation of Physical Layer, Data Link Layer, Network Layer and Application Layer including the service access points and key functional modules of data and management SAPs and protocol data transmission and reception, link quality indicator, channel selection and frequency hopping, clear channel assessment, network initialization and maintenance, association and deassoiciation, time synchronization, wireless routing and network management commands in each layer, and finally the testing and analysis for each layer, especially the Application Layer testing for the whole protocol stack in accordance with a specific project application.WirelessHART protocol stack is available as an independent wireless communication module for the integration with WiredHART devices and for the design and development of components for construction of complete WirelessHART network, such as WirelessHART gateway, adapter, intelligent field device and handheld device.
