The rapid growth of data service is promoting the construction of optical networksystem, but atthe same time, the development of optical transport network is also exacerbating the pressure ofenvironment. In order to protect environment, but also satisfying the needs of people, we need tooptimize the network, as far as possible to reduce the energy consumption of the system ofnetwork. Therefore, the green optical network is becoming a hot research field. Now in the core optical transport network, the major transmission technology is the WDMtechnology. The bandwidth resources is becoming less, and the utilization of the technique ofWDM bandwidth resources is low, in order to solve this problem, we need to find someefficient modulation techniques. Some researchers have proposed O-OFDM technology, comparedwith the WDM technology, this technology can greatly improve the efficient of bandwidth, and isone of the effective methods in the future to alleviate the pressure of bandwidth. The main work of this paper is to study the O-OFDM optical network energy consumption, toachieve energy-saving optimization design of optical network. This paper introduces the structure ofWDM network, the related technologies and energy consumption model of network.AlthoughO-OFDM is different from WDM technology, but similarly in the network equipment, sothe WDM optical network energy consumption model has some reference value. In the analysis ofenergy consumption of optical network, constructing a Integer Linear Programming equations, thismethod is too complex, and not suitable for large networks, so then proposing a heuristicalgorithm. And then put forward some the analysis specific conditions that may affect the energyconsumption of the network. Through the simulation calculation, not only analyzes the energyconsumption structure of core optical network, and the conclusions are drawn that the overallenergy consumption of the network in different conditions, namely the energy consumption ofoptical network with bypass is smaller than optical network without bypass; satisfy or not satisfythe constraints, the gap of energy consumption is not very much, but greatly impacting theutilization of spectrums, and also increasing technology requirements of the networkconstruction; selecting the larger spectrum slot helps to reduce network energy consumption, butalso reduce the spectrum utilization in the network.
