The scareceness of wireless spectrum resource is an increasingly serious problem. Visible lightcommunication technology based on white LED provides a new solution for this problem. Thispaper combines video technology into visible light communication technology, and proposes visiblelight communication system for video transmission based on MPEG-2. This system provides a newdeveloping direction for broadband access technology.The overall framework of visible light communication system for video transmission based onMPEG-2is proposed based on the study of video technology, visible light communicationtechnology and its application. It’s a short distance wireless video transmission platform integratingvideo capture, video compression, video transmission, video display and LED indoor lighting. Thispaper designs the video acquisition circuit to realize ADC of analog baseband TV signal, the visiblelight emission and receiving circuit. The research is mainly focused on source encoding modulebased on MPEG-2and channel encoding module based on HDB3. After analyzing the whole system,the technical difficulties of integrating MPEG-2video encoding technique into visible lightcommunication are proposed. In order to resolve these problems, the output parallel data flow ofMPEG-2video compression chip needs the processing of rate matching and parallel serialconversion. Besides, HDB3code with less the DC component and low frequency component,strong capability of detecting error, independent of source of statistic characteristic acts as thetransmission code, extracting timing signal and decoding circuit can become easier. This signalpattern matches the channel characteristic, and further improves the reliability of transmissionsystem. Finally, the physical demonstration system was set up successfully, and its experimentalresults verified the feasibility of this scheme.
