With the development of video compression technology, video compression standards haveimproved in the past few years, which need the better traditional video compression algorithmand soft-hard ware. Simple Video Profile of video profile based on MPEG-4 standard is regardedas the realization standard. Texture coding is of importance. DCT algorithm is often used invideo compression algorithm, which is only used in frequency domain but time domain. It bringson mosaic phenomenon. DWT provides a new local analysis of multi-frequency field/multi-timefield, as a good tool in video compression, because it has complexity of express in-calm imagesignal and the ability to adapt of human vision.MPEG-4 is studied deeply based on object ofvideo encoding with the development of video standard. The grammar structure of MPEG-4,encoding-decoding frame, the method of video encoding are introduced. The key technology ofshape coding ,motion estimation and compensation,texture coding are researched. Texturecoding,PMVFAST,code rate control,I-DPCM,P-DPCM,DWT,DCT are studied in detail.In motion estimation search arithmetic, PMVFAST algorithm is proposed to come ture codingproject of MPEG-4 by using DWT instead of DCT. The whole system comes true on PC byusing software. The actual system of coding is design on DSP. Coding arithmetic is optimized toimprove the efficiency of program perform, which is demanded by the real-time of system. Theresult of system testing is showed at last.
